1/17/2024 0 Comments Affinity Designer free instalI have laboured with InDesign for years and years and have been waiting for a total rewrite by Adobe or a decent alternative. ![]() While I am happy to use Blurb for some things I also want to be independent of Blurb. I would prefer to have the full book feature set contained within the Lr / Ps partnership and avoid using 3rd party products. I am glad to see some relatively recent improvements in the Book module, but think this module has yet to achieve its full potential. 25 Euros, which gives me desktop publishing on my laptop and also allows me have multi page editing of pdf's. I am pushed in this direction also, because Adobe are making it extremely difficult for me to install my CS6 version of InDesign and Acrobat Pro on my laptop and was very happy to put Affinity Publisher on my laptop for approx. I have no reason at the moment to use Affinity Photo as I am happy with Photoshop, but I am seriously anxious to find an alternative for Adobe InDesign. ![]() I will then use it to create books containing my images and metadata from Lr, just as pdfs or in a format suitable for Blurb. I have Affinity Publisher and am awaiting its mail merge functionality (on the list but no promised dates). Verdict:Īffinity Designer is an astonishing achievement by Serif this is a highly accomplished design tool which fits beautifully into the Affinity range and serves as a genuine alternative to the big names such as Illustrator.I think this family of apps has potential. You'll need to register online though, as even the trial needs a serial code, which you can do here. Ordinarily, there is a trial available that last just 10 days, but at time of writing this has been extended to 90 days. It's a shame to see that there is no support for scripting or animation, and also that there is no plugin support. There are a number of both pixel and vector brushes depending on which mode you're working on and, importantly, performance is impressive.įor all of its brilliance, Affinity Designer is lacking in a few areas. Grids and guides are advanced and powerful, and the isometric option will be welcomed by many users.įor anyone switching from Illustrator or collaborating with Illustrator users, the good news is that Designer can open AI and EPS file, although sadly it's not possible to save as AI. ![]() There is a wide range of vector tools available in the app, and vectors can have an unlimited number of strokes and fills for maximum flexibility. ![]() Serif describes this software as a "stripped back, pro-end workhorse", and it's absolutely right.ĭesigner can handle huge documents with ease and gives you the option of switching between vector and raster workspaces, and the ability to work in RGB or LAB color spaces at up to 32-bits per channel. While this is clearly a rival to the likes of Adobe Illustrator and Sketch, you'd be forgiven for initially dismissing it as being underpowered. This particular app was the first one to be released as part of the Affinity range, and over the course five years development has been strong.Īffinity Designer is a vector drawing app that, despite being amazingly cheap, offers professional-level tools that can be used for all manner of projects. Just as Serif is taking on Photoshop with its Affinity Photo editor and InDesign with Affinity Publisher, so Affinity Designer sees the company competing with Illustrator.

![]() Before that, it showed a consistently decreasing number of files that I would normally assume were syncing, eventually ending up at something like "Everything is up to date." But at no point was I ever able to access any of those files in the local Dropbox directory at /Users/./Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. The status bar has been stuck on "Updating files." for these last six hours as well. However, repeated scans with DaisyDisk continue to say that there is virtually nothing on the local disk-15GB of system files and 50GB of everything else-and that's been true regardless of my sync settings. This makes me wonder anew what the appropriate setting is: I would expect checked folders to be synced locally, but the only time it appeared to even be trying was when they were unchecked. "Sync and backups" shows a lot more, but only up to about 6 hours ago, which is approximately when I changed from my experiment with having every folder unchecked under Selective Sync to having every folder checked once more. "Activity" shows a grand total of three files, and nothing since yesterday. ![]() There's very little to see under the "Sync and backups" or "Activity" tabs. My Dropbox version number is 1. iOS 15 brings audio and video enhancements to FaceTime, including spatial audio and Portrait mode. I'm anticipating a switch to Microsoft OneDrive, where I've seen no reports of such problems, sooner rather than later. I've been using Dropbox for years, but it now appears to be totally useless. I still haven't managed to access a single file out of that 2.2TB. The exact wording leaves room for speculation that maybe we're now supposed to uncheck the directories that we want to have synced locally, so I tried that, but the results were identical, so I switched back. The problem originally occurred with the default of every folder checkbox selected under Preferences->Sync. When I click it, I get a dialog that says "The file couldn't be opened," and the filename itself disappears from the Finder. The Dropbox file structure does show up, but there's a "download from cloud" icon next to most files. However, while the Dropbox app has been "Updating files." for many hours, DaisyDisk confirms that there's still virtually nothing on the local drive, even as hidden files. I currently have 2.2TB in my Dropbox and want it to be synced to this new, second machine, with no online-only files-there's more than enough space for everything on the local internal drive-and I believe I've configured this correctly, just as I have many times in the past (though see below). I was finally forced onto the new Dropbox Beta, which I wasn't looking forward to based on the advance reports.and sure enough, everything's broken. I'm having massive problems as well, on a 2017 iMac running a fresh (disk wipe) install of Ventura 13.2.1. 1/17/2024 0 Comments Lunch atop a skyscraper pictureThat photo was owned by the International News Photos archive, which was a competitor of Acme Newspictures archive, the original owner of Lunch Atop a Skyscraper. In addition to photos featuring different poses for the 11 men on the beam, there’s also a rarely seen picture of four of the men stretched out across it, taking a well-deserved nap. There was more than just this single shot taken that day. THERE WERE MORE DEATH-DEFYING PHOTOS TAKEN THAT DAY. Taking place during the Depression, when 15 million people were looking for work, the image of an expanding city and the workforce behind it was a rare bright spot for the public to hang on to. “It seems pretty clear they were real workers, but the event was organised with a number of photographers." ![]() "The image was a publicity effort by the Rockefeller Center,” Johnston told the UK's Independent. No, 11 men eating lunch on a beam hanging 69 floors in the air was not an everyday sight, and the whole thing came together to publicize the construction of Rockefeller Center. IT WAS PURELY FOR PUBLICITY.Īlthough the image was meant to give a casual look into what a worker’s life was like high above the city streets, it was purely for publicity purposes. But other photographers were up there that day, too, including William Leftwich and Thomas Kelley, and so the Rockefeller archive and Corbis removed any official credit and attributed the photo to “unknown.”Īccording to Ken Johnston, who was the Historical Director of Photography at Corbis Images, until the 1950s it wasn’t out of the norm for photographers to not receive credit for their photos. Here are 10 fascinating facts about Lunch Atop a Skyscraper. ![]() ![]() It’s been over eight decades since the image was printed in the New York Herald-Tribune on October 2, 1932, and it's been one of the most well-recognized pieces of photography ever since. It showed the world that New York City-and America as a whole-was still building, still progressing, and, most importantly, still working. The sight of 11 Rockefeller Center construction workers casually eating lunch across a beam hanging 850 feet in the air was a hopeful look at life in the '30s. But Lunch Atop a Skyscraper was different. 1/17/2024 0 Comments Parallels client linuxThese symptoms are introduced when the Hyper-V Hypervisor is running. These applications might not start virtual machines, or they may fall back to a slower, emulated mode. Affected applications include VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. My assumptions on Parallels is based in Russia stems from a while back - years actually. Many third-party virtualization applications don't work together with Hyper-V. They are obviously a 'loud' developer team as their applications clearly shows. It's just not very fitting of MacPaw being so aggressive. Naive comment I would prefer they suspend their service for the duration of the war When I say that MacPaw as a company is going out with a bang - it's based on various comments elsewhere(I read their comments subjectively and I have liked their tweets in the past on their unfortunate situation in Ukraine - now I feel it's on repeat) I've just seen too many MacPaw updates on Twitter to get the impression that they are taking their position in Ukraine too seriously. I'm not sure I would agree with the sentiment that "MacPaw as a company is going out with a bang"-they do have Setapp, which apparently they're doing well with, and they have offices in other places besides the Ukraine. I would agree with you that there may be some personal grudges at play. I'll check it out in greater detail-thanks for the tip.Īn April Fool's update? Interesting. I see that they have Fusion Player and Fusion Pro, but the differences don't seem too large for the average consumer. As you said, apparently they do support Monterey now. Maybe I was reading some old information. I still found it hard to believe that Parallels would publicly voice their support of the Ukraine on one hand, while hiring developers from Russia well versed in cyberattack methods on the other.Ībout VMWare, I was rather confused by their current offerings. Of course, it would be hard to tell, as Parallels likely wouldn't divulge the countries their developers reside in. Why would you think that Parallels is based in Russia? Parallels Desktop has been a key app for me for many years now, and VMWare Fusion for Mac has not yet been made publicly available for macOS Monterey, so it really seems like VMWare is quite a bit behind the game in terms of virtualization. While I feel terrible about the plight of those in the Ukraine whose country has been invaded by Russia, I really don't see how they can actually link Parallels to any of this. What I'm wondering is whether anybody has any information on any actual reported ties that Parallels may have to Russian or Belarusian developers who are identified cyberattackers, or any specific security risks that would now leave Parallels Desktop prone to specific cyberattacks, moreso than before. However, when I reached out to MacPaw support to find out what their reasoning is for marking Parallels Desktop as suspicious and whether there are any actual security risks, I received no reply. 1/17/2024 0 Comments Link extractor scrapy![]() The CrawlSpider contains the attribute rules and the same properties as a standard Spider. The received value may be changed and returned.
